Referee unsighted
The Scottish international and CSKA's Dadu were involved in an incident with eleven minutes remaining of the third qualifying round first-leg fixture. As Dadu lay on the ground following a challenge with Rae, the ball struck his hand. Rae attempted to play the ball with his left foot, before kicking the CSKA player in the head with his right. The referee, who had only seen the handball, resumed the game with a free-kick to Rangers.
Dangerous challenge
After reviewing the incident, however, it was decided that Rae's challenge was dangerous and could have seriously injured his opponent. The Control and Disciplinary Body will deal with the case on Monday 16 August.
Racist abuse
Following Wednesday's matches, disciplinary proceedings have also been instigated against FK Crvena Zvezda for the racist abuse of PSV Eindhoven No 11, DaMarcus Beasley, by home supporters during the first-leg tie. The case will be dealt with on 19 August.
