Debreceni VSC and FK Rabotnicki traded goals just before half-time to leave this UEFA Champions League second qualifying round tie even ahead of the return leg in Skopje.
Immediate response
The team from F.Y.R. Macedonia took a surprise lead at the end of an otherwise uneventful first half when they hit their hosts on the break. Nderim Nedzipi's initial shot from the edge of the area brought a fine save from Norbert Csernyánszki but Goran Stankovski pounced on the rebound, heading in from close range. Debrecen were stung into immediate action, hitting back in the second minute of added time. Playmaker Tamás Sándor provided a superb pass for Róbert Zsolnai who lobbed Tome Pacovski from the edge of the area.
Post denies Bogdanović
Although the Hungarian champions enjoyed marginally the better of the second half they could not find their way past a Rabotnicki back line which regrouped impressively after surrendering the lead. The Macedonian side looked dangerous on the break and certainly unnerved the 9,000 Hungarian fans in attendance. Igor Bogdanović might have snatched victory for the home side in the dying minutes, but the Serbian striker's effort hit the woodwork to leave the tie level.
