Article body
There was inevitably disappointment for Hamburger SV coach Thomas Doll as his side's fourth defeat in four UEFA Champions League Group G games ended their hopes of even a UEFA Cup campaign in the spring. For FC Porto's Jesualdo Ferreira, however, there is the real prospect of progress in this competition after the 3-1 victory in Germany moved them level with second-placed Arsenal FC and within a point of PFC CSKA Moskva.
Thomas Doll, Hamburg coach
Everybody in the arena saw that we didn't do enough. I'm very, very disappointed. It was not only this match, we also didn't play well in the other games. We didn't represent the club well, and we also failed to represent Germany in a good way. We were not in a good shape on the pitch. Normally my players show good character, but tonight I was not able to say that my team had struck back. In the future, it will be absolutely necessary to put more into a match to win it.
Jesualdo Ferreira, Porto coach
We played very well. Only for a period of ten minutes, in which Hamburg scored, was I not satisfied with the performance of my team. All in all this was our best match for several weeks. We are now in a good position to ensure we will play in Europe for the next few months, and have every chance of reaching the quarter-finals.
