Lack of action
The 28-year-old had not played for Benfica since December, and since then had been training with the club’s second team. Šokota first arrived at the Lisbon team in 2001/02 but struggled for fitness at times, including an achilles injury which kept him out for a lengthy period.
Cup winner
He enjoyed a successful campaign for Benfica in 2003/04, scoring eleven goals in 29 appearances as the club won the Portuguese Cup. In the following campaign, Šokota figured in just 14 matches, scoring four goals, as the Eagles clinched the title and a return to the UEFA Champions League group stage.
