Léo bound for Benfica

SL Benfica have signed 30-year-old Brazilian international left-back Léo from Santos FC for an undisclosed amount.

Previous clubs
The defender has penned a three-year contract with the Portuguese champions having been a regular at Santos since 2000. He played for Goytacaz FC, Americano FC, União São João and SE Palmeiras before arriving at Santos in 2000.

League champion
Léo won Brazilian titles with Santos in 2002 and 2004, scoring 21 goals in more than 200 appearances for the club. His performances prompted a call-up to the national side and he went on to help Brazil win the 2005 FIFA Confederations Cup in Germany. Léo said: "I'm ready to do my best for Benfica. It's one of the biggest clubs in the world and I have signed a dream contract."
