"I have a special relationship with the Champions League – it is a trophy I had to wait a long time to touch," says Didier Drogba, with the forward eager to prolong his love affair with the competition as his Galatasaray AŞ side bid to overturn a 3-0 quarter-final deficit against Real Madrid CF on Tuesday.
As Chelsea FC's hero last season – scoring both the equaliser in the final and the winning penalty in the shoot-out – the 35-year-old Ivorian is hoping he can earn similarly legendary status with his new club, with whom he is delighted to be back on the biggest stage.
"It is a real joy for me to be back in the Champions League, and especially to hear its anthem at the beginning of each game," the striker said, holding the belief that Cimbom, whom he joined from Shanghai Shenhua FC in January, are on the cusp of great things.
"I have found a club that is ambitious, with a great project. They at some point want to win the Champions League. It is a great choice for me. I wanted to rediscover the passion I experienced in Marseille. I want to be part of this adventure, part of this challenge. This is something very exciting."
