Although the statistics showed Málaga CF and Borussia Dortmund shared possession equally and had the same amount of efforts on target, the impression remained in the German dressing room that they had let an opportunity slip in their 0-0 UEFA Champions League quarter-final first-leg draw in Spain. However, defender Neven Subotić refused to lay the blame at the feet of the attackers, and he and centre-back partner Felipe Santana are sure they will get goals in Tuesday's home return.

There is really nothing I can criticise my team-mates for. They put in the effort. Up front they created lots of opportunities and I am sure that if we put in at least the same effort in the second leg then we will create sufficient chances to get a goal. Obviously, we are very happy to have reached this far and equally happy about the performance today.
Málaga did not make it easy for us at all. They are a good team. Just look at the first half – they put in a huge effort, they defended well. This is a good side which plays quality football. At the end I didn't do much more than shake our coach's hand. He did not say anything about how we played. I am pretty sure he will be very happy with the performance.
We are a young team. For most of us it is our first time getting this far. Dealing with the pressure, at this stage of the competition, in an away game – plus playing as we have done for the last couple years – that is something to be proud of. But we want more. We want a goal and it is in our hands. All we have to do is win the home game.
The atmosphere here in Malaga was great. It was fascinating. I have not experienced something like this before. I respect it. But what is waiting for Málaga in Dortmund – that is one notch up again.
Felipe Santana, Dortmund defender
Obviously there is frustration because Málaga have a good team and we had chances to score but did not take them. However, there are 90 minutes remaining and they are 90 minutes at home. We will score goals. We will have the same atmosphere as ever waiting for them. The whole world knows what it can be like in our stadium, with well over 70,000 people behind us. It helps us a lot. We have to count on the backing of our supporters so that we win and get to the semi-final.
Comparisons between our and Barcelona's style of play will have to wait – it is nice to hear that, but we have to continue doing this again and again until one day we perhaps merit comparison to Barça. There is a lot of time left before we can get to the semi-final or the final – and a tough game against a good team. They have many excellent players. Now we have to ensure we stay concentrated and intense in our attitude in order to beat them.
