Robben: Bayern have been 'warned once'

Arjen Robben told UEFA.com that FC Bayern München "deserved the win" after inspiring the Bundesliga leaders to a 2-0 quarter-final first-leg victory against Juventus, their 150th European Cup triumph.

Robben, who turned the tide after replacing the injured Toni Kroos in the first half, found it a challenge to adapt to the pace of the game but was pleased with his contribution. He is confident Bayern's experiences in the round of 16 will ensure they do not surrender their aggregate lead in Turin next Wednesday.

I think we were very confident and overall we played very well. Scoring a goal within 30 seconds was a great way to start. I think we controlled the game – we dominated and deserved the win.

It was very difficult, to be honest, coming off the bench after 15 minutes. I didn't have any time to warm up, so I had to adapt to the game quickly. It was being played at such a high tempo and there was a lot of action on the right side when I came on. In the first ten or 15 minutes there were chances and plenty of action. It was good that I was able to get into the game.

We'll have to wait and see [if 2-0 will be enough]. We've already been warned once. When we played Arsenal [in the round of 16] and won 3-1 away, everyone was thinking the tie was over. Of course then everyone was disappointed and angry with our result at home [0-2], but it was a good lesson for us.

I wasn't expecting us to score such an early goal and I doubt Juve were either. It was a bit of a shock for them but obviously good for us. [Gianluigi Buffon] is a superb goalkeeper and if you look at the flight of the ball, it was a really difficult one for him. I know how David [Alaba] shoots – they're dangerous balls to deal with.

You can't afford to make any mistakes in the Champions League. You could see from the start that we were trying to keep hold of the ball in our build-up play, making sure every pass arrived at its destination. We didn't want to risk opening ourselves up to any counterattacks, or allow them any chances, and I think we managed to do that very well.

If we can wrap up the Bundesliga title [at Eintracht Frankfurt] this weekend it certainly wouldn't hurt [ahead of next week].

My gut tells me that we needed another goal. We had a few good chances to get a third, but let's not forget we kept a clean sheet and the defence did very well.

It's great fun playing against top sides in the Champions League. It's a challenge and really inspiring for us. Turin isn't an easy place to play, though, and Juve will be a different proposition in front of their own fans. We're in a good position to progress but haven't achieved anything yet. The key for us will be scoring an away goal.
