Lewandowski tongue-tied by 'Hollywood' ending

Robert Lewandowski could barely find the words to describe his emotion after Borussia Dortmund struck twice in injury time to end Málaga CF's remarkable run and book their place in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals. The in-form Poland striker, who scored his side's initial equaliser, marvelled at an "absolutely unbelievable" finish to the tie, while defender Neven Subotić compared the dramatic denouement to that of a Hollywood film.

It's really hard to describe what went on tonight, but we're happy – we're into the semi-finals. Those final five minutes were absolutely unbelievable. We knew we had to turn the game and it was chaos at the end, but so what? We're in the semis and we're delighted.

It was difficult after Málaga's second goal but we knew that whatever happened, we needed to do something. At 2-2 we were desperate to get the winner and when Felipe [Santana]'s goal went in it was amazing. As I say, it's difficult to describe what happened but it must have been unbelievable for the fans.

We need to see what happens in the semi-finals now and see who we're up against, but that doesn't matter really. We're one of the best four teams in the Champions League.

I've never experienced anything like that – I've only seen it in Hollywood films. We're struggling to properly enjoy it because we know how poorly we played. Of course joy is the overriding emotion, though. It was such a crazy match. We didn't play well in the first half and in the second it wasn't much better, but we still created and wasted several chances. In the end it all worked out, though.

Hope dies last and that was certainly the case tonight. This season has been something of a fairy tale for us so far and tonight was the icing on the cake. It was the highlight of the season.

We've won titles here and the German Cup last year, but this tops the lot. We were 2-1 down, but because of our performances in the Champions League this season we maintained a ray of hope. [Losing] just didn't fit the story somehow and somehow we did it. The feeling I had when the third goal went in was one of total relief.

Obviously we're a little tired after such an important and physically draining match but we're also relieved that our irrepressible determination carried us through again and that we were able to turn the game and win it.

I got a second wind at the end. I still had a little bit left in me [to sprint to my team-mates and celebrate]. We got our reward for never giving up. Even after we went behind for a second time we weren't going to just lie down.

We showed huge character tonight, but we need to push on now. We all know it wasn't our best performance in the Champions League – maybe even our worst – but our determination never faded and that's what won us the game in the end.

I don't think it’s something you can really grasp unless you're involved in sport and have experienced it yourself. It was unbelievable. I don't think any of us knew what was going on in added time. I've always wanted to experience something like that in my career and it couldn't have come at a better time.

I think you saw most of our emotion out on the pitch. Obviously the mood in the dressing room isn't bad either, but it's not like you saw out on the pitch. We let it all out there. We're just calming down now but I think it'll take a while for it all to sink in.

We have an incredible will to win. If we play badly it's never down to our attitude. We always bring the right mentality. I don't think anyone believed in the 90th minute that we could still do it, but once we got the equaliser at 2-2, it was obvious the final four minutes [of added time] were going to be special.
