Galatasaray AŞ coach Fatih Terim called on the home fans to roar his team to a similar victory to the one they achieved against Real Madrid CF in last season's UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg as the sides meet again in Group B.

Terim's men beat Madrid 3-2 in April, not enough to overturn a 3-0 deficit but sufficient to raise hopes ahead of Tuesday. The Merengues lost their 100% Liga record at the weekend in an eventful draw with Villarreal CF, but while Diego López gave a man-of-the-match performance at El Madrigal, Carlo Ancelotti confirmed Iker Casillas will don the gloves in Istanbul for the first time at club level this season.

Madrid are favourites to advance from this group but if we can get to double figures in terms of points, our chances of reaching the round of 16 will be a lot better. Last season we only managed one point from our first three games but then won our next three to end up on ten, which took us through. If we forget all mathematical calculations, then we just have to play our best each game.

Despite losing to Real Madrid in the quarter-finals last season, we played very well in the second leg. This is not a knockout game this time. If we lose, nobody can say Galatasaray will fail to qualify for the next round because we'll have five games more after that. But if we win, we'll have a good advantage.

Real Madrid have bought a lot of important players this season with high price tags like Gareth Bale's. And they already have superstars such as Cristiano Ronaldo who is one of the best players in the world with [Lionel] Messi. They already have [Ángel] Di María, [Sergio] Ramos, [Karim] Benzema...

But we want to achieve success at home, everyone knows the atmosphere our fans can create. We can stand up against any team any time. Playing from the heart is very important at this level. We need great support from our fans, even if our players make a mistake. If our fans give unconditional support, it will affect our team positively and my players will play better for that.

Weekend result

Eray İşcan; Eboué, Semih Kaya, Chedjou, Hakan Balta; Emre Çolak (Bruma), Engin Baytar (Sabri Sarıoğlu 67), Felipe Melo, Amrabat (Umut Bulut 46); Burak, Drogba.

• Galatasaray were held to a third consecutive draw in what was Eray İşcan's first league start. The home side started well and the post denied Hakan Balta and Emre Çolak, yet they fell behind before Didier Drogba salvaged a point with his first goal of the season.

Team news
Selçuk İnan is expected to shake off an ankle injury picked up on international duty. Hamit Altıntop is out with a groin problem while Semih Kaya faces a fitness test on his right leg. Terim says Bruma is not yet ready to play 90 minutes.

Madrid
Carlo Ancelotti, coach
Gareth Bale can play in any position. I will play him in a position to which he is most suited and therefore is better for him. Casillas and Diego López are both very good goalkeepers, the rivalry between them makes them improve. I prefer Casillas in UEFA Champions League games because he is more experienced. Diego López will play in the Liga this season. I expect Casillas will give a good performance tomorrow.

Rivalry between players such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Bale or Casillas and Diego López is not a problem for us. Real Madrid are one of the biggest clubs in the world and are very familiar with situations like these because we often have the best players in the world.

Fatih Terim is a good and very experienced coach. He has trained so many good teams in the past and I have a good relationship with him. The UEFA Champions League is the most important club competition. I'm very happy to be in it again. We have a fantastic squad and are one of the favourites for the title this season. Tomorrow's difficult away game will be a good test for us to gauge what level we are at.

Weekend result
Saturday: Villarreal CF 2-2 Real Madrid (Cani 21, Dos Santos 70; Bale 38, Ronaldo 64)
Diego López; Carvajal, Pepe, Sergio Ramos, Nacho; Bale (Di María 62), Modrić, Illarramendi (Khedira 62), Isco, Ronaldo; Benzema (Morata 73).

• Bale's debut goal brought Madrid level in a pulsating encounter at El Madrigal before Ronaldo – who penned a three-year contract extension over the weekend – scored his second league goal of the season to make it 2-1. Giovani dos Santos beat man-of-the-match López to earn the Yellow Submarine a point in a game in which Asier Illarramendi also made his Madrid bow.
