Hyypiä delighted with four-goal Leverkusen

"We haven't played that well in a long time so I'm very happy," said Bayer 04 Leverkusen's Sami Hyypiä after the 4-0 home win over FC Shakhtar Donetsk in Group A.

I'm really satisfied with the way my team played. We haven't played that well in a long time, so I'm very happy. If you want to progress through the group phase you have to win your home matches and with two victories we are on the right track. We were a little bit lucky with some decisions, but nevertheless we were the better team. Four-nil is a big result, but we played better and deserved the win.

We want to win every match, but we knew about Shakhtar's quality. They are at a high European level and I didn't expect the match to turn out like this. I thought it would be more difficult, but in the end we kept our concentration and played very well.

Mircea Lucescu, Shakhtar coach
It is hard to find the right words because this result is really embarrassing. The first half was about equal, apart from the goal, and we also had a good chance with [Alex] Teixeira's effort. The second half started equal, too. Now we have to prepare for the next match and I hope my players remember this night and do the right things in the next game, which will be completely different from tonight.

In the second half we wanted to play with more power, but the penalty ruined our plan. Then we became nervous and made a lot of mistakes. To rate my players today is impossible. Everyone tried to assume some responsibility, but things didn't work out, not even for one player. I'm surprised even my experienced players made so many mistakes.
