Jesus downcast after Benfica dream is dashed

Laurent Blanc is ready to return to Lisbon for the final despite seeing his side lose to SL Benfica, who had coach Jorge Jesus praying for a miracle which never arrived.

The important thing was to win, to do our bit and hope for a miracle in the other game, but we knew Olympiacos were ahead. There was a lot at stake tonight, not only the qualification but also the prize money. Benfica were better in the second half, compared with the first, we were physically superior to PSG. We were closer to the third goal than they were to getting an equaliser. It is a shame we miss the next phase when Benfica and Paris were the best teams in the group, but we are still in Europe and that is a good thing.

We know in the Champions League that there are opponents who are stronger than Benfica, which is not to say we could not dream. Now we go into [the UEFA Europa League] where we were finalists last season. If we reach the final again we would be pleased.

Laurent Blanc, Paris coach
In the first half we did what we needed. We created chances, defended well and scored. In the second half we lacked ambition, we were under physical pressure. Unfortunately we conceded the second goal. I think the second half was disappointing. Remember, we lined up with a young team. I took off some players on the hour who proved they were important. We are therefore disappointed because we wanted to get a good result. We did not. Now let's move on.

I am ready to come back here [for the final] with much more ambition game wise, but in the meantime there are games to win and God knows that these games will be tough. Do not forget we are through to the knockout stage and we look forward to the draw. I hope to return to Lisbon, but we will have to play some great matches and overcome some big teams for that.
