Striker Sergio Agüero will miss the opening instalment of Manchester City FC's UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie with FC Barcelona after being ruled out for a month with a hamstring injury.
Agüero, 25, limped off during the second half of Manchester City's 5-1 victory at Tottenham Hotspur FC on Wednesday, a win which took Manuel Pellegrini's charges back to the Premier League summit. "The doctor has seen Agüero and he will be out for a month," said Pellegrini. "It will be difficult because he is a top player for us but we have the players to replace him. He has just come back from injury and Álvaro Negredo, Stevan Jovetić and Edin Džeko can replace him."
Agüero, who has scored 15 Premier League goals in 17 games this season, looks certain to sit out the visit of Barcelona to Manchester on 18 February. City finished second in UEFA Champions League Group D, Agüero hitting six goals in five outings. The Argentina forward will have his sights set on a return to action before the last-16 decider in Spain on 12 March.
