Müller: Bayern will not let up against Arsenal

FC Bayern München may be going into their round of 16 home leg against Arsenal FC 2-0 up and on the back of a record Bundesliga run, but there will be no complacency on Tuesday, promises Thomas Müller.

Bayern's bid to make the first successful UEFA Champions League title defence was aided three weeks ago in London when Müller added to Toni Kroos's opener two minutes from the end. Since then Bayern have played three league fixtures and scored a total of 15 goals, stretching their winning streak to a Bundesliga record 16 matches and moving one short of a 50-game unbeaten sequence in Germany's top flight.

Forward Müller, who struck twice in Saturday's 6-1 triumph at VfL Wolfsburg to take his personal tally to five in three outings, said: "Thinking about the character of our team, we have won our last 16 games in the Bundesliga. We always turn up, everybody always wants to win. We are not careless or arrogant. We always concentrate and want to win."

As for Arsenal, who of course won 2-0 at Bayern 12 months ago in this round to lose narrowly on away goals, Müller added: "We respect all opponents in the Champion League. I have learned how to have respect. Talking about Arsenal or other teams who are in the European elite, you have to have respect."

The 24-year-old German international himself is beginning to settle in the new advanced role given him by coach Josep Guardiola this season. "I've been playing up front a lot and I am getting used to it. I got two goals against Wolfsburg. But I do not have any preferences. I am just a player who plays with movement, I will play where the coach wants me to play.

"The way we are playing has changed a little bit [under Guardiola]. We play more in the opposition half, now we have the ball in the middle rather than on the wing. We find space for players. But it is very similar to last year. Guardiola does not make compromises – he wants to inspire the team."
