A beaten quarter-finalst with Málaga CF this time last year, Real Madrid CF midfielder Isco told UEFA.com that turning the tables on Borussia Dortmund – the side that put paid to the Boquerones' 2012/13 UEFA Champions League hopes before beating Madrid in the next round – felt good. Defender Pepe, meanwhile, called on Carlo Ancelotti's team to go in search of more goals to add to their 3-0 advantage in next Tuesday's return leg.
Isco, Madrid midfielder
This is a really good result for us. In ties like this, it's very important not to concede goals so on that basis we are taking a positive result to Dortmund for the second leg. I think I played well; I'm happy with my performance and my goal. Above all, however, I'm happy for the team's victory, which is what is most important for everyone.
We are very close to reaching the semi-finals. We have taken an important step towards that goal here at home. But games and ties must be played out to a finish and you never know what can happen. We will go there taking every precaution while looking to win the match, as we always do.
My goal tastes that little bit sweeter coming against Dortmund, who eliminated Málaga and also Madrid last season. Sporting revenge is a beautiful thing. We now hope to knock them out.
Karim Benzema, Madrid forward
I'm very happy with the result. I don't want to talk about revenge, only of today's game, which was a great one from our point of view. We scored three without reply, a very important achievement ahead of the second leg. I don't know if that advantage is enough. We will see about that in the next game but for now we feel good. We will look to keep fighting until the end because Madrid are a great team.
Pepe, Madrid defender
We demonstrated the quality we have. We started the game with a lot of intensity, pushing our opponents back. We were able to count on our great supporters and we have to thank them as that was an important factor.
Dortmund have a lot of virtues and great players who really know how to play the game, especially on the counterattack. However, we didn't afford them many opportunities tonight. I hope that in the return leg we can play with the same intensity in order to get through the tie.
We know it's important that we hold a 3-0 lead but we need to score in the second leg. We have to play to win that game and not to look to defend our lead. There are still 90 minutes to go. Robert Lewandowski will be back for the return match and he is a fantastic player but I believe that Dortmund's strength lies in their collective ability.
I always look to do the best for my team. It was nice that the crowd were chanting my name. I have to give them so much thanks for the affection they have shown me. It means I am leaving here a very happy man tonight.
