Following their UEFA Champions League elimination by Club Atlético de Madrid, Javier Mascherano said FC Barcelona's focus was now firmly on the Spanish double.

FC Barcelona's ambitions of reaching a seventh successive UEFA Champions League semi-final were ended 2-1 on aggregate after a 1-0 loss at Club Atlético de Madrid in a pulsating all-Spanish quarter-final. Although feeling down in the immediate aftermath of Wednesday's second leg, Javier Mascherano insisted he and his team-mates would lift themselves as they looked to win the remaining trophies on offer this season.

Javier Mascherano, Barcelona midfielder
We're obviously feeling down – it hurts a lot but that's the way it is. That was not the result we wanted. It was an even tie in which they ended up with a small advantage. In the end, they took the prize. Atlético had a very good start to tonight's match while we didn't. We had to score, but even though they did, it didn't affect our plan. Unfortunately it wasn't to be for us. We had our chances but we are out.

We have to learn from this. We have to lift our heads quickly because we have a very important game in the Liga on Saturday and the week after we have the Copa del Rey final. We can't dwell on tonight, even though we all wanted to go further [in the tournament]. The only ones responsible are ourselves but we still have the possibility of winning two trophies this season.

Xavi Hernández, Barcelona midfielder
We'll have to look at the game again but I think we had four or five chances which we would normally take. I think we stood up to the challenge and we deserved a draw and to take the game to extra time. We gave two good performances in the tie. We could have scored more goals at home and here. The tie got away from us because we didn't take our chances. Congratulations to Atlético.
