Vincent Kompany says Manchester City have "a chance to prove ourselves" in Munich

City captain says club are closing in on "three or four best clubs in the world"
Kompany: "We can achieve big things, we're getting better every day"

Kompany on … Bayern
It is a pleasure to come here. It is always a chance to prove ourselves. There are probably not many harder places to come to. Bayern are one of the best clubs in the world. It is the time to close the gap between us and those three or four best clubs in the world. It is a good thing to start with such a game. But it is just the first step in the group stage. It is an important game.

Kompany on … renewing acquaintances
Last year it was very close in the group, just one goal [in it]. It is good that the teams are [together again] and we are looking forward to it. It is difficult to predict what will happen tomorrow. It will be a good test for us and for Bayern.

Kompany on … City's European prospects
It is not acceptable not to put all the trophies on our ambitions list. Perhaps it is not realistic but we have every trophy on our list. The club is asking us to win now. In the last few years we have been very successful. We are not favourites but we want at least to compete and challenge. It was difficult to believe we could win the Premier League, but we did it. We want to try the same with the Champions League.

Kompany on … club developing
There is no sign that we are not going to be better, but there's no guarantee that we will win the competition. But I keep believing that this team can achieve big things. I think we get better every day, we have done for many years. And we take the experience from the last few years. But of course it will be a hard game and we accept this battle. We are going to go one step further.

Kompany on … changes at City
Our system has changed since two years ago. Before it was not clear how we wanted to play. During the second game [against Bayern] we showed we can do better. We know it is 12 months later and we know where we have to be. And we know we have a lot of good players. We have strikers who need just the blink of an eye to decide a game.

Kompany on … impact of last year's win in Munich
It was a very important game, to win against Bayern. We saw the effects in the Premier League later on. [The Champions League] has just one winner; the rest are losers, even if they reach the final or the semis.
