Injury nightmare goes on for Bayern's Badstuber

"I won't give up!" declared Holger Badstuber after rupturing a tendon in his left thigh, having only just returned from a 20-month lay-off with a double cruciate ligament injury.

FC Bayern München central defender Holger Badstuber faces another lengthy spell out after rupturing a tendon in his left thigh during Saturday's 2-0 victory against VfB Stuttgart.

Badstuber will require surgery to repair the damage, having only returned to action this summer after 20 months out with cruciate problems. "I'm obviously very disappointed right now," the 25-year-old told the Bayern website. "But of course I now know how you deal with situations like this. Don't worry. I'll be back, and I'll pick it up from where I left off after battling to return from my long injury lay-off. I won't give up!"

The defender fought his way back into the team after recovering from a double cruciate ligament injury and had been in promising form in the fledgling new campaign. Bayern coach Josep Guardiola must now reassess his defensive options for the UEFA Champions League, with his side hosting Manchester City FC in their Group E opener on Wednesday.
