• Markus Rosenberg struck both goals to lift Malmö alongside the other three teams in Group A on three points.

Club Atlético de Madrid 1-0 Juventus
• Atlético got off the mark in Europe courtesy of Arda's goal 15 minutes from time.

Group B
FC Basel 1893 1-0 Liverpool FC

• Streller scored the only goal just after half-time to earn Basel victory against the five-time European champions.

PFC Ludogorets Razgrad 1-2 Real Madrid CF
• The holders fell behind and missed a penalty inside the opening ten minutes, but prevailed through Cristiano Ronaldo's second spot kick and Karim Benzema's second-half volley.

Group C
FC Zenit 0-0 AS Monaco FC

• Yannick Ferreira-Carrasco came closest to breaking the deadlock when he hit a post, though both teams moved onto four points.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen 3-1 SL Benfica
• Strikes from Stefan Kiessling, Son Heung-Min and Hakan Çalhanoğlu ensured Leverkusen got off the mark in the section.

Group D
Arsenal FC 4-1 Galatasaray AŞ

• Danny Welbeck's first European goals for the Gunners – as the north London club went second in the section.

RSC Anderlecht 0-3 Borussia Dortmund
• Ciro Immobile's early effort and a brace from substitute Adrián Ramos helped to maintain Dortmund's 100% record.
