The London Evening Standard famously greeted the 46-year-old Wenger's arrival with the headline: 'Arsène Who?'. Victory at Ewood Park, with a pair of Ian Wright goals, began to answer that question.

"At first, I thought 'what does this Frenchman know about football?'" remembered Arsenal captain Tony Adams. All doubts were dispelled as this win made Wenger the first non-British manager to lift the English title, and his side clinched a domestic double with an FA Cup final defeat of Newcastle 13 days later.

Mocked for suggesting Arsenal could go through a campaign unbeaten, Wenger emulated the Preston North End 'Invincibles' of 1888/89 with this win, finishing the Premier League campaign without defeat in the midst of an English-record 49-game unbeaten run.
