Nicolás Gaitán has signed a one-year contract extension at SL Benfica in a deal that commits the Argentina midfielder to the Lisbon outfit until the end of the 2015/16 campaign.
The new deal rewards the impact that the 23-year-old has made since his arrival from CA Boca Juniors at the start of last season. Fully established as a key member of Jorge Jesus's side, he has featured in all three of Benfica's UEFA Champions League Group C matches, having also scored in the third qualifying round first-leg victory against Trabzonspor AŞ.
Gaitán, who has made 34 Portuguese Liga appearances in total, also struck a late goal to rescue a point for the Eagles in the 2-2 draw at champions FC Porto on 23 September. The excellent performances of the six-times capped international have prompted Benfica to include a €45m release clause in his contract.
