Both PSV Eindhoven goalscorer Tim Matavž and AC Milan defender Urby Emanuelson declared themselves satisfied after their teams fought out a 1-1 UEFA Champions League play-off first-leg draw.

PSV forward Matavž regretted that his side did not convert more of the numerous chances they created, but was happy with the overall play and thought that "a draw was about right". Milan’s Dutch left-back Emanuelson was content to leave Eindhoven on level terms, especially because it was his side's first competitive match this season, and reckons that his team will be in "better shape" for next Wednesday’s home return.

Tim Matavž, PSV forward
Milan took the lead so I suppose I am happy with the 1-1; and also with the way we played. We could have scored more, especially in the first half, but in the end a draw was about right. We put them under more pressure during the first 45 minutes, but you cannot keep that up for the whole match, so Milan came more into the game after the break.

I was delighted to score, I saw that [Jeffrey] Bruma was going to shoot and I made sure I would be in the right place to pick up a rebound. Luckily there was no defender who thought the same, so I was free to head the ball home. I don't think we really missed [Zakaria] Bakkali this evening, of course he's a good player but Park Ji-Sung was a great replacement.

Urby Emanuelson, Milan defender
We should not be too unhappy with the result. We were not particularly surprised that PSV started so strongly because they are keen, lively and energetic. They are also a very good team who dare to play football. This was the first competitive match we have played this season, so it took us a while to get going. But we did take the lead, which probably helped us relax more and control the match better in the second half.

We have outstanding forwards who do not really need much in order to make a difference. I would think that we will be in better shape for the return next week.
