Betis have also acquired the first option to buy López, who is under contract with Barça until June 2007. However, should such a scenario arise, the Catalan side would reserve a portion of the player's rights so as not to lose out if Betis were then to sell the player on.
Lazio loan
The 25-year-old full-back forged his career in Barça's reserves and made a total of eleven appearances with the first team under coaches Louis Van Gaal and Radomir Antic. Last season he was loaned out to S.S. Lazio where he featured 14 times in Serie A and also appeared in four UEFA Cup matches.
Champions League debut
Betis meet Xerez CD in a friendly match this evening as a warm-up for their UEFA Champions League debut at AS Monaco FC next Tuesday. The Verdiblancos will then meet Barça in the Spanish Super Cup final over two legs on 13 and 20 August.
