Xavi 'thrilled' at Barça backing

Spanish international Xavi Hernández has revealed his delight at agreeing a new contract with FC Barcelona.

One-club man
The Spanish international's original deal was due to end in 2007, but he has now agreed to remain at the Camp Nou until 2010. Xavi, currently with Barcelona on a post-season tour of Japan, has been with the Catalan side since 1997 and following his first-team debut in the 1998/99 campaign he has made almost 200 league appearances.

'Devoted fan'
"I'm thrilled about this," the 25-year-old said. "I'm a devoted Barcelona fan and I always wanted to stay at the club. The club are happy but I'm even happier. The agreement gives me extra security because I know that the club is counting on me until June 2010."
