Ajax had announced in March that the 32-year-old's contract would not be extended when it expired this summer, but coach Danny Blind intervened to persuade the board that Anastasiou's positive influence on the club's younger players merited a further deal.
Important contribution
The player's new terms will run until 30 June 2006. He joined Ajax from Roda JC in February 2004 and played a key role as Ajax finished second in the Eredivisie in 2004/05, scoring winning goals in important games against Roda and De Graafschap late in the campaign.
