Rangers FC captain David Weir has agreed a new one-year contract with the Scottish champions.
The deal will keep the former Everton and Scotland central defender at Ibrox until after his 41st birthday next May. Weir played every minute of every game of Rangers' 2009/10 Premier League campaign, and was named the division's player of the year.
Rangers chief executive Martin Bain said: "It is great news. There is no doubting Davie's importance to the team and his influence on those around him." Weir, the one-time Falkirk FC and Heart of Midlothian FC player, joined the Glasgow club from Everton in January 2007. He has since made 125 top-flight appearances. With Rangers due to compete in the UEFA Champions League group stage in 2010/11, Weir follows manager Walter Smith in signing on for another season.
