FC Bayern München have rewarded Thomas Müller for his phenomenal breakthrough campaign in 2009/10 by handing the attacking midfielder a contract extension until 2015.

Müller's original deal ran until 2013, but the 20-year-old had expressed his wish to commit to a long stay in Munich and received a considerable pay rise in the process. Prior to his outstanding performances for Germany at the FIFA World Cup in South Africa, where Müller scored five goals to earn the Best Young Player and Golden Boot awards, he helped Bayern win the domestic double and reach the UEFA Champions League final in what was his first full season in the club's first team.

Not surprisingly Müller, who hit 13 Bundesliga goals last term, described the events of the past 12 months as the stuff of dreams as he reflected on his new deal. He said: "A dream came true for me this past season. Bayern is my home, FC Bayern is my club and I am really happy that I will be wearing this jersey for the next five years." The Bayern chief executive, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, added: "Good performances will be rewarded at Bayern. We are very happy that he will stay with us in the long term."
