FC Twente have signed prolific Austrian international Marc Janko from FC Salzburg in a deal reported to be worth up to €7m.
The towering striker, 26, signed a four-year contract with the Dutch titleholders on Monday evening and arrives as successor to United States-bound Blaise Nkufo. "I am very happy to get the opportunity to play for FC Twente – they have done a lot to get me here," said Janko. "Twente are Dutch champions and therefore it is a good opportunity for me to play in the UEFA Champions League."
Nkufo scored an impressive 114 goals in 223 appearances in Enschede and while Janko acknowledges "they are big shoes to fill" he is confident he can step up. A return of 75 goals in 108 league games for Salzburg, including 39 in the 2008/09 season, supports that claim. Led by new head coach Michel Preud'homme, Twente will enter the UEFA Champions League group stage this autumn.
