Chelsea FC have confirmed they will be without Salomon Kalou and Yossi Benayoun for three weeks due to injuries sustained in the Londoners' League Cup defeat by Newcastle United FC on Wednesday.
Kalou, who came on at half-time of the 4-3 home loss, lasted just 11 minutes before pulling up with a thigh injury, while Benayoun went off after hurting his calf 28 minutes from time, with manager Carlo Ancelotti having already made his three substitutions. "They had a check-up yesterday and I think they will be able to come back after the international break, maybe three weeks," said Ancelotti.
There was, however, better news after it emerged that forward Gaël Kakuta suffered no significant damage from the tackle that forced his withdrawal at the break with a leg injury. Chelsea face Olympique de Marseille in UEFA Champions League Group F at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday.
