"UEFA and the entire football family extend their sympathy and sincere condolences to the family of Antonio Puerta, Sevilla FC and the Spanish Football Federation," said European football's governing body in a statement. "Today's event comes in a week that has plunged Greece into mourning for the tragic loss of many human lives in forest fires.
