Wenger renews Arsenal commitment

Arsenal FC have confirmed that manager Arsène Wenger has signed a three-year contract extension until June 2011 which will make him the club's longest serving manager.

Glittering success
Wenger took over at Arsenal in 1996 and has guided the club to seven major honours as well as the finals of the 2006 UEFA Champions League and the 1999/00 UEFA Cup, which were lost to FC Barcelona and Galatasaray SK respectively. He has enjoyed better fortune in domestic competition, however, winning Premier League titles in 1998, 2002 and 2004 with Arsenal going undefeated for the duration of the latter campaign, part of a 49-game unbeaten run that established a new record for the English top flight. In addition, Arsenal won the FA Cup in 1998, 2002, 2003 and 2005 and reached the final in 2001.

'Club of my life'
"My heart is tied to this club so signing a new deal was always my intention," said Wenger, who is on course to overtake George Allison's club record reign between January 1934 and May 1947. "Arsenal is the club of my life. I have been entrusted with complete freedom to implement and execute my plans on what will make the team successful and that means I have a responsibility to the fans to deliver silverware and also a responsibility to the players to help turn our potential into prizes. This club has deep-seated roots and a tremendous heritage and it is my aim to uphold these important values and help create new history for future generations."
