Dynamo suffer Shovkovskiy knock

FC Dynamo Kyiv's ambitions of a third-placed finish in Group F have been dealt a blow after Olexandr Shovkovskiy suffered a knee injury on international duty.

FC Dynamo Kyiv's ambitions of a third-placed finish in UEFA Champions League Group F have been dealt a heavy blow after goalkeeper Olexandr Shovkovskiy suffered a knee injury that could rule him out until the new year.

Rybka chance
The 32-year-old sustained the knock in Ukraine's 2-0 UEFA EURO 2008™ qualifying defeat by Lithuania on Saturday, and the initial prognosis suggests he may have ruptured ligaments. He will be replaced by FC Shakhtar Donetsk's Andriy Pyatov when Ukraine meet France on Wednesday, with coach Oleh Blokhin also calling up Bohdan Shust. Dynamo, meanwhile, are likely to turn to 20-year-old Olexandr Rybka for their remaining UEFA Champions League outings against AS Roma and Sporting Clube de Portugal, pending news from further tests on Shovkovskiy.
