Edmílson bound for Barcelona

FC Barcelona have continued their Brazilian trend by signing the international defender Edmílson.

Brazilian blend
Edmílson arrived in Barcelona yesterday and underwent a medical last night before being presented on Thursday. It is understood Barcelona will pay Lyon €8m for the centre-back and a further €2m should the club meet certain objectives in the Primera División and UEFA Champions League. Barça's squad for the 2004/05 season has a strong Brazilian influence with stars Ronaldinho and Thiago Motta being joined by Juliano Belletti and Sylvinho, along with the Brazil-born Deco, a Portuguese international.

High hopes
The 28-year-old Edmílson moved to Lyon in the summer of 2000 from Santos FC, and during his time in France, helped the Stade Gerland club to a hat-trick of league titles between 2002 and 2004. He was also part of Brazil's 2002 FIFA World Cup-winning side. "I feel very happy," Edmílson told Barcelona's official website. "For any player it is a dream come true to have the chance to play for a team like Barcelona. I am convinced we will have a good team this season that can achieve many things."
