Chelsea challenge excites Kezman

Work permit
The 25-year-old Serbian was granted a work permit yesterday and subsequently signed a four-year contract. Kezman, who struck 31 goals in the Dutch top flight last season and is PSV's all-time leading scorer, said: "I'm very honoured to be part of such a great club. We first had contact last summer but then everything calmed down. However, it took just 24 hours for the clubs to reach an agreement."

Four strikers needed
Kezman joined PSV in 2000 for €11m from FK Partizan in his homeland, and was voted the Dutch Footballer of the Year in 2002/03 in recognition of his 35 goals in PSV's title triumph. The striker believes goals will be more difficult to come by in the Premiership, though. "A club like Chelsea, for whom winning is a must, will play 60 matches a season and therefore need four strikers," he said.

Mourinho request
"I will have to fight strongly to gain a place, something which will only make me stronger. I know I will be sitting on the bench at times but this doesn't worry me because I know that I have been bought to play. The manager [José Mourinho] told Chelsea officials he wanted me and that was enough to get the wheels rolling from my end."

Crespo poser
Kezman joins former PSV team-mate Arjen Robben at Stamford Bridge. He will compete with Eidur Gudjohnsson and Adrian Mutu for a starting spot along with Hernán Crespo, should the Argentinian opt to stay at Chelsea. Mourinho has given the forward until 21 July to decide whether he wants to remain in England. "It's up to him. I don't want players who aren't 100 per cent ready to stay," said Mourinho, who will sign a replacement if Crespo departs.
