Capello swaps Roma for Juve

Fabio Capello has left AS Roma to join Juventus FC on a three-year contract as replacement for Marcello Lippi.

Lippi replacement
Capello, a former Juve player, has agreed a three-year contract with the Turin-based club who finished third in Serie A this season behind runners-up Roma. Juventus had been without a coach since Marcello Lippi stood down at the end of the season.

Champions League glory
A former Italian international who won 32 caps for his country, the 57-year-old Capello has enjoyed a highly successful coaching career. He won four league titles in five seasons with AC Milan in the early 1990s, and led them to UEFA Champions League glory in 1994.

Madrid title
He left Milan in 1996 to coach Real Madrid CF, and won the title in his only season in Spain. He returned to Milan but stayed only two seasons before heading to Rome. He guided Roma to the Italian title in 2001 and ensured their return to the Champions League for the 2004/05 season.

Time of transition
It is currently a period of transition for Roma, however, with Argentinian international Walter Samuel being sold to Madrid and French defender Jonathan Zebina moving to Juve in the last week.
