Ferguson delighted
The 19-year-old has signed a deal that could keep him at Old Trafford until June 2007. Manager Sir Alex Ferguson said: "This deal is in keeping with what we have been doing at the club in bringing young players through to the first-team squad, and we recognise Darren's progress and are delighted to get him on a new contract."
European debut
Fletcher, who made his United debut in a UEFA Champions League tie against FC Basel last March, appeared as a substitute in Wednesday's defeat by VfB Stuttgart in the same competition. The right-sided player has followed former apprentices Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Gary Neville, Phil Neville, Nicky Butt, Wes Brown and John O'Shea into the senior set-up.
