Desailly ponders future

Former France captain Marcel Desailly has left Chelsea FC by mutual consent and is returning to France.

Many honours
The 35-year-old, who recently retired from international football, joined the west London club in 1998 from AC Milan. Equally accomplished in defence or midfield, he lifted the 1998 FIFA World Cup and the 2000 UEFA European Championship among his many honours. With Chelsea, he won the UEFA Super Cup and the FA Cup. He has been capped a record 116 times for France.

Second departure
Desailly is the second player to leave Chelsea since the arrival of new coach José Mourinho. Argentinian midfield player Juan Sebastián Verón has joined FC Internazionale on a one-year loan. Chelsea will begin their 2004/05 UEFA Champions League campaign in the group stage.
