CSKA Moskva will travel to the Estádio José Alvalade on 18 August to face Sporting CP in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League play-off with happy memories of the only other time they visited the Lisbon venue – and picked up the UEFA Cup.
Sporting hosted the 2004/05 final of the competition and made their way through to the decider. They led at half-time through Rogério but Aleksei Berezutskiy, Yuri Zhirkov and Vágner Love then struck for CSKA to secure Russia's first-ever UEFA club competition title.
Berezutskiy, his brother Vasili, goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev and Sergei Ignashevich all remain at CSKA, and will hope for a repeat success to earn a UEFA Champions League group stage ticket. Watch highlights of that 2005 final in the video player above.
