Key group facts

  • Juventus and Manchester City played out two 1-1 draws in the 2010/11 UEFA Europa League group stage. While City went through as group winners, Juventus finished third having drawn all six games and bowed out. Juve were 2-1 aggregate victors in their other tie, in the 1976/77 UEFA Cup first round (0-1 away, 2-0 home).
  • Fernando Llorente has just joined Sevilla after two seasons with Juventus, scoring 23 Serie A goals in total to help the Bianconeri lift the Scudetto both times. The Andalusians' Ciro Immobile was in Juve's youth system, making his first-team debut in March 2009. Juventus defender Martín Cáceres played for Sevilla between 2010 and 2012.
  • UEFA Europa League winners in each of the past two campaigns, Sevilla beat Borussia Mönchengladbach in the round of 32 en route to last season's triumph. Unai Emery's team won 1-0 at home with Vicente Iborra's 70th-minute effort, before Carlos Bacca (8) and Vitolo (26, 79) secured a 3-2 away success; Granit Xhaka (19) and Thorgan Hazard (29) got the Mönchengladbach goals.
  • Borussia Mönchengladbach overcame Juventus 4-2 on aggregate in the 1975/76 European Champion Clubs' Cup second round, prevailing 2-0 at home before a 2-2 away draw.
  • Mönchengladbach also came out on top in their only fixtures against Manchester City, in the 1978/79 UEFA Cup quarter-finals, a 1-1 away draw preceding a 3-1 home triumph. The German side went on to defeat FK Crvena zvezda in the final.

Reaction to the draw
Massimiliano Allegri, Juventus coach
Manchester City, the tradition of Borussia Mönchengladbach, Juventus and our friend Fernando Llorente at Sevilla: hard and fascinating games but we can do it!

Unai Emery, Sevilla coach
This is the Champions League: Serie A, the Premier League and the Bundesliga all in the most competitive, demanding and exciting group. Vamos Sevilla!

Granit Xhaka, Mönchengladbach midfielder
I am looking forward to it, these are strong opponents. I hope we can play a good role. We are the outsiders, but we can make something happen in that group.
