Malmö, Welbeck, Totti: The best of matchday two

Malmö FF made a fine home bow, Danny Welbeck hit three, and Francesco Totti broke a record; UEFA.com selects the week's top UEFA Champions League stories.

Malmö FF made a stunning home bow, Danny Welbeck had Arsène Wenger purring, FC Porto showed perfect timing and Francesco Totti went where no 38-year-old has gone before; UEFA.com reviews a week of historic performances and upsets in the UEFA Champions League.

Team: Malmö FF
The southern Swedish city joined the ranks of UEFA Champions League venues on Wednesday, Malmö marking the occasion with a superb 2-0 win against matchday one star performers Olympiacos FC. The Greek side were fresh from beating Club Atlético de Madrid but goals either side of half-time from Markus Rosenberg drew Malmö level with Olympiacos, Atlético and Juventus in Group A.

Rosenberg told UEFA.com: "Our ambition has always been to get through even if nobody believed that. Nobody believed in us when we said we wanted to get into the Champions League but now we're here, we know we can do big things here. We're going for nine points at home and hopefully some bonus points away."

Player: Danny Welbeck (Arsenal FC)
If you are going to pick a time for your first senior career hat-trick, why not choose your home UEFA Champions League debut for a new club? Three similarly calm first-half finishes from Welbeck helped Arsenal bounce back from opening defeat by Borussia Dortmund to see off Galatasaray AŞ 4-1.

"Danny is a great player and he has shown it for many years at Manchester United," said Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, while Arsène Wenger added: "He is a good finisher... I didn't know he was so quick, honestly – I knew he was quick but he has such great pace."

Moment: FC Porto's finale at FC Shakhtar Donetsk
The first 89 minutes at Shakhtar did not go well for Porto. Not only did the hat-trick hero against FC BATE Borisov, Yacine Brahimi, have a first-half penalty saved, but Shakhtar scored on 52 and 85 minutes. No matter, with a minute to go Porto got another penalty, which substitute Jackson Martínez dispatched. Then, in the fourth minute of added time, the same player finished off a fine team move for an unlikely draw – and the Group H lead.

"Two goals don't come when Jackson magically steps off the bench and scores," said the hero of the hour, even though they had. "It's collective working well." Mircea Lucescu:  "I don't much want to talk. We were so happy before the end of the match, we were euphoric. And then we conceded two goals. We are very upset now. There's nothing more to say."

Quote: "We could have won by more ... against Liverpool!"
FC Basel 1893 coach Paulo Sousa enjoys their 1-0 win. "We made it easy for them," admitted Steven Gerrard

Number: 38 - Francesco Totti (AS Roma)
Just getting that vital equaliser at Manchester City FC would have been enough for the long-serving Roma captain, but he also became the first 38-year-old to strike in the UEFA Champions League.
