Olympiacos FC have announced the acquisition of centre-back Alberto Botía on a four-year deal from Sevilla FC.

After signing for the Greek champions Botía told the club's official website: "I am very happy to join Olympiacos. I intend to give my best and I am eager to work hard and help the club grow even more. I am confident that Olympiacos will do great this season."

After starting his career in the youth ranks of Real Murcia CF, Botía joined the revered FC Barcelona academy in 2003. He featured for their B side for three seasons (2006-2009) and made his senior debut on 30 May 2009, in the Blaugrana's final Liga encounter of the season, against Deportivo La Coruña. That was his first and last match for Barcelona, as he was loaned to Real Sporting de Gijón in summer 2009. His deal with the Asturias club was made permanent a season later. In summer 2012, Botía was signed by Sevilla and spent last term on loan at Elche CF.

The 25-year-old was a member of the Spain squad that won the UEFA European Under-21 Championship in 2011. His new employers will begin their UEFA Champions League campaign in the group stage.
