Club Atlético de Madrid have reached an agreement with SL Benfica to take Slovenian international goalkeeper Jan Oblak to the Spanish capital on a six-year contract.
The 21-year-old – part of Benfica's treble-winning campaign of Portuguese Liga, Cup and League Cup last season – will make the switch to the Spanish champions for a €16m fee, subject to passing a medical.
Speaking about the acquisition of the former NK Olimpija Ljubljana No1, Atlético sporting director José Luis Caminero said: "This signing is great news for our club. Jan Oblak is a goalkeeper with a lot of quality and has a big future. We're delighted to be able to count on him."
Recruited by Benfica in 2010, Oblak – capped three times by Slovenia – developed his reputation during loan spells with UD Leiria and Rio Ave FC. He returned to the Eagles to register 25 appearances – including in the UEFA Europa League final loss to Sevilla FC – in all competitions in 2013/14.
Voted Portugal's best goalkeeper last term, Oblak joins fellow goalkeeping addition Miguel Ángel Moyá at the UEFA Champions League runners-up.
