Bayer 04 Leverkusen have signed Emir Spahić from Sevilla FC on a two-year deal for an undisclosed fee.
The centre-back, 32, made 44 Spanish Liga appearances in two seasons at Sevilla and spent last season on loan at Russian side FC Anji Makhachkala. "Emir Spahić is a strong player, both physically and technically," said sporting director Rudi Völler. "He's got great tactical ability and is also good in the air. He will help us achieve our goals in the Bundesliga, the German Cup and of course the UEFA Champions League."
Spahić captains Bosnia and Herzegovina, where he plays alongside his cousin and Manchester City FC forward Edin Džeko. The defender, capped 64 times, will add some experience to a side who finished third in the Bundesliga last term and will enter the UEFA Champions League at the group stage.
