Shakhtar will return to the scene of their greatest achievement, winning the 2009 UEFA Cup, when they take on Fenerbahçe in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League third qualifying round tie later this month.
It was at the Istanbul club's Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium six years ago that the Pitmen, coached then as now by Mircea Lucescu, claimed their first and so far only piece of European silverware. Jadson's extra-time goal against Werder Bremen settled the 38th and last edition of the UEFA Cup, Naldo having cancelled out Luiz Adriano's opener for the Ukrainian side.
