UEFA has handed over a mini-pitch to the city of Getafe as part of this week's UEFA Champions Festival in Madrid.
The mini-pitch was presented by UEFA president Michel Platini to Pedro Castro, mayor of Getafe, ahead of the UEFA Women's Champions League final at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez – the home ground of Liga side Getafe CF. Ángel María Villar Llona, president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and third UEFA vice-president, along with Ángel Bustos, sports councillor of Getafe, were among the officials present.
The formal unveiling included a visit to the pitch and the ceremonial kick-off of a game between local teams ADC Brunete and UD Getafe III. Mini-pitches have been on UEFA's assistance agenda for some years now – creating an opportunity for people to play 'street football' in a safe environment.
