It was all eyes on the Estádio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica on Saturday night, especially in Madrid where some 125,000 filled the Vicente Calderón and the Santiago Bernabéu to watch public screenings of the final.
Fans of both Real Madrid CF and Club Atlético de Madrid filled their respective stadiums as they sought – and largely succeeded – to recreate the atmosphere 630km away in Lisbon. It was an unforgettable night of tension, despair, celebration and, above all, passion, with one venue's pleasure invariably providing the other stadium's pain.
UEFA.com were there to capture events that will live long in the memory of all those present, encapsulating the fans' fervour as the drama unfolded. From the ecstasy that flowed along the banks of the River Manzanares following Diego Godín's 36th-minute opener to the delirious scenes at the Bernabéu that greeted Madrid's late goals, we got it all.
