Chelsea FC have completed the signing of Netherlands midfielder Marco van Ginkel on a five-year contract.
Chelsea and Vitesse decided on a fee – believed to be in the region of €10.5m – on Thursday, and Van Ginkel has since passed a medical and agreed personal terms. His new employers, UEFA Champions League winners in 2012, will enter the 2013/14 campaign in the group stage under the charge of former coach José Mourinho, reappointed this summer.
"I'm very happy to be here at such a nice club with great players," said Van Ginkel. "I am really happy, the stadium is good and the training ground is fantastic. I know about all the players and will meet them on Monday. I expect a lot, I've watched matches and it's really nice to be here."
Van Ginkel, 20, has spent all of his professional career with Vitesse, scoring 16 goals in 86 Eredivisie games. Though he has one senior cap to his name, he has been more of a regular with the Netherlands Under-21s and made three appearances this summer as the Jong Oranje reached the final of the UEFA European U21 Championship in Israel.
