The official match balls for the 2012/13 UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League have been unveiled by adidas in Monaco.
The adidas UEFA Champions League Finale 12 official match ball will be used in all group stage matches of the coming season's competition. The new design features an outer coating texture created to provide optimal grip at the point of impact.
The artwork within the iconic star panel construction utilises bold colours (white, lab lime and dark violet) and has been devised to reflect a tactics board of precise on-field movements. The geographical locations throughout Europe linked together as a result of the competition, are also represented.
The thermal-bonded stars on the match ball, based on the design of the UEFA Champions League logo, also contain the coordinates of Nyon, Switzerland, and Herzogenaurach, Germany, the homes of UEFA and adidas respectively.
The new match ball for the UEFA Europa League, meanwhile, boasts key ball technology first employed for the Tango 12 at UEFA EURO 2012. The distinctive design incorporates the UEFA Europa League colours of red and yellow and also bears an interpretation of the UEFA Europa League trophy within the panel designs.
adidas also supplied the official match ball for the 2012 UEFA Super Cup between Chelsea FC and Club Atlético de Madrid in Monaco.
