McCarthy promising much for Porto

FC Porto have agreed a €3.5m deal to bring South Africa striker Benni McCarthy back to the club on a permanent four-year contract.

Instant success
The 26-year-old, who enjoyed a six-month loan spell with Porto in the 2001/02 season, returns there from Spanish side RC Celta de Vigo. During his loan at Das Antas, McCarthy won many admirers with 12 goals in ten matches.

Aiming high
McCarthy has high hopes that Porto can enjoy another successful campaign after their treble triumph last season that included lifting the UEFA Cup. "We have to win from the first until the last match," he said. "We are the champions and we will be champions again."

Position filled
The forward, who will fill the gap left by the departure of Hélder Postiga to Tottenham Hotspur FC, is due to link up with his new colleagues at their training camp in Germany. McCarthy joined Celta for the 1999/00 season after first moving to Europe to play for Dutch club AFC Ajax two years before.

Second signing
Porto have also completed the signing of Brazilian youth international Bruno Moraes. The 19-year-old striker, who will start in Porto's second team, has agreed a three-year contract with the option of a further 12 months if all goes well.
