Tottenham v Internazionale facts

There is all to play for as Tottenham take on Internazionale at Wembley with qualification from Group B on the line.

• The Italian side – who engineered a late turnaround against Spurs on matchday one, recovering from Christian Eriksen's 53rd-minute opener to snatch a 2-1 win thanks to late goals from Mauro Icardi (86) and Matías Vecino (90+2) – have seven points, three more than Spurs.

• Inter will therefore be through with a draw; Tottenham must win to stay in contention for a top-two finish.

Previous meetings
• Matchday one continued the pattern of dramatic encounters between the sides. In two pulsating meetings in the 2010/11 UEFA Champions League group stage, Inter withstood a superb fightback from ten-man Tottenham to win 4-3 in the first game at San Siro, despite Bale's hat-trick. Spurs turned the tables in north London, running out 3-1 winners as both sides progressed to the last 16.

• There were also plenty of goals when the sides renewed acquaintance in the 2012/13 UEFA Europa League round of 16, Spurs winning the home first leg 3-0 – Jan Vertonghen scoring the final goal – but Inter levelling the tie on aggregate back in Italy to force extra time. Emmanuel Adebayor's 96th-minute strike proved enough for Tottenham to progress on away goals despite a 4-1 defeat on the night.

• Spurs followed their opening defeat at Inter with a 4-2 loss at home to Barça on matchday two, their heaviest home defeat in the UEFA Champions League and joint heaviest in Europe. A 2-2 draw at PSV Eindhoven extended their winless European run to five fixtures, before the Dutch side were beaten 2-1 at Wembley last time out.

• Having scored two late goals to beat Tottenham on matchday one, Inter again came from behind in defeating PSV by the same scoreline in the Netherlands in their second fixture. They were defeated 2-0 at Barcelona on matchday three before a 1-1 draw against the same opponents last time out.

• Fourth in Serie A in 2017/18, Inter are the last Italian team to win the UEFA Champions League, in 2010 – their third European Cup triumph, and first in 45 years.

• This is the 12th time Inter have been in the group stage – but the first since 2011/12.

• Inter have progressed from their group in their last eight UEFA Champions League campaigns.

• Inter did not take part in UEFA competition in 2017/18; their most recent European campaign came the previous season, when they failed to progress from their UEFA Europa League group.

• The win at PSV ended Inter's run of five successive away European defeats, and was their first victory in nine away matches (D3 L5).

• The Nerazzurri have lost on five of their last six visits to England (W1), where their record overall is W4 D1 L10.

• Croatia's Ivan Perišić scored past Hugo Lloris in this summer's FIFA World Cup final, France eventually winning 4-2. Šime Vrsaljko and Marcelo Brozović also featured for Croatia.

• Perišić cancelled out Kieran Trippier's opener as Croatia, with Vrsaljko and Brozović again playing, beat an England side featuring Eric Dier, Harry Kane and Dele Alli after extra time in the World Cup semi-finals.

• Christian Eriksen missed his spot kick as Denmark lost to a Croatia side including Perišić, Vrsaljko and Brozović on penalties in the World Cup round of 16.

• Spurs have won their last five games in all competitions, and seven of their last nine (D1 L1). They beat London rivals Chelsea 3-1 on Saturday, Harry Kane making it five goals in his last six Tottenham games.

• Juan Foyth's first Premier League goal, on his second appearance, secured a 1-0 win at Crystal Palace on 10 November.
